Will White - Anzac of the Year 2013

Will White (left) (Year8 - Dom) has just been awarded Anzac of the Year 2013 along with his cousin Sergio Schuler. The Anzac of the Year award is given to only one person or collective each year and this year the Govenor General and RSA national president Don McIver presented this prestigious award to Will and Sergio after their courageous efforts during the Summer holidays when they saved a man who had been caught in a rip at Boventown heads.

Six scholarships

Congratulations to (L - R) Rachel Schmidt, Natasha Staheli-Lowe, Jean Balchin, Erin Sims, Zoe Hughes and Konagh Garrett who received scholarships from Newmont Waihi Gold in recognition of their hard work but most importantly their overall academic placing at the end 2012. The scholarships are intended to support students in their first year of tertiary education. Mr Cochrane also received a cheque for $30,000 which is spent on improving education for all students at Waihi College.

It is great news that Makaire Kopara has been re-elected, unopposed, to the position of student representative on the Board of Trustees.


Makaire has fulfilled his duties with an overt interest in making Waihi College a better place for students and his friendly approachable style make him an excellent representative and a valued Board member.
