Congratulations once again to our fabulous Surfboat rowers Josh Williamson and Luke Kingsford who along with the rest of the Waihi Beach Under 19 Crew finished a great season with two gold medals and a four club series win. They won both the long and short course at the Nationals in Gisborne a couple of weeks ago. Surf Life Saving
This year we would like to start a Waihi College Surf Lifesaving Team This team will compete in the NZ Secondary Schools Championship in early 2012.
There are a lot of facets to Surf Lifesaving and therefore many opportunities. Junior and Senior Students from Waihi College have competed in the sport at regional and national level in swimming, boarding, sprints, flags, team rescue events, surf skis, surf boats and IRB racing.
Some of our senior students have been paid as Regional Guards over the busy summer holiday period and have also been involved in educating children through the national Beach Ed programme. There have been senior students involved in coaching and training the Junior Surf.
