This letter was emailed home to all caregivers earlier in the week:
We hope this letter finds you and your tamariki well as we move through the school year.
As a kura, we take great pride in our school culture, identity, and the safety of our students. Part of maintaining this environment involves ensuring our school uniform is practical, safe, and consistently worn.
With this in mind, we are writing to inform you of an upcoming update to our school uniform policy, which has been recently decided by the Board of Trustees.
Following a review by the Board, Crocs (or similar looking clogs) are no longer considered suitable footwear for Waihī College students. To ensure clarity for everyone, the acceptable footwear options moving forward are:
# Shoes: Flat, plain black shoes (any material) worn with plain black or white socks (no visible logos), or official Waihī College socks.
# Sandals: Flat, plain black sandals. Please note that sandals must have a back strap (slides or slip-ons are not permitted).
This change to the uniform policy will come into effect at the beginning of Term 3, on Monday, July 20, 2026. This gives our whānau the remainder of Term 2 and the upcoming school holidays to ensure students have the appropriate footwear ready for the start of the new term.
We understand that sourcing new uniform items can sometimes present challenges. Please be assured that we are here to help. As a kura, we have a supply of appropriate footwear available for students who may require it.
If providing the correct footwear is a barrier for your child, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Whānau are very welcome to get in touch with their child’s Pouako or our main office, and we will discretely and gladly assist.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our students safe and looking proud in their Waihī College uniform.
Ngā mihi nui,
The Senior Leadership Team
