We are very excited to be part of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako (Healthy School Lunches Programme) where every student at Waihi College receives a free lunch, every day.

This programme is run in conjunction with Lunch by Libelle who provides the food for a locally employed team to assemble and distribute right from school.  They have a Facebook page if you’d like to check it out.

Should you have any queries, please contact Mr Cochrane via phone on 07 863 8349 or by sending him an email.

Kai Care Packs

In early 2022 Waihi College set up an initiative called ‘Kai Care Packs’ where we used surplus ingredients from our Free Lunches Programme and turned them into meals for the freezer.  These meals enabled us to assist lots of local families, primary schools and daycare centres who were unable to get out and about due to COVID or other illnesses.  The packs were made up with the help of students and staff who gave up a lunchtime each Wednesday to create the meals under the guidance of our cooking and hospitality guru Siobhan Fitzgerald.  The initiative was started with Siobhan, Tracy Te Wake (our staff Wellbeing Leader) and Wendy Shave (our Arts, Services & Communications Coordinator).

Currently, we still have plenty to offer.  Instead of making up meals with left over ingredients – we simply freeze any lunches that were not needed each day.  They are available for pick up from the Student Centre during standard school hours.  Please come and help yourself if you, or someone you know, could use them.
